19 August 2010 Empowering young women the African way

Masimanyane’s Executive Director, Dr Lesley Ann Foster, will jet off to Nigeria today to attend the launch of the Girls' Power Initiative’s new secretariat.

Foster will be a guest speaker at the launch, which is taking place between the 20th and 21st of August in the city of Calabar.

The Girls' Power Initiative, headed by Professor Bene Madunagu, focuses on empowering young women between the ages of 16 and 24.

Learners from Masimanyane’s Human Rights Club have, over the years, left their schools well prepared to face the challenges this world throws at them. However, back home, their parents are often unable to relate to them because of the kind of knowledge they have acquired from being in the club.

2 August 2010 Counselling: a journey of self transformation

The second part of our staff profiles takes us to Zanempilo Health Centre, where one of Masimanyane’s counselling centres are based. Situated at the tail end of Oxford Street, a block away from the city’s magistrate’s court and police station, this two-story centre receives cases mainly to do with domestic violence and marital issues.
