Masimanyane launches new shelter
Masimanyane Women's Rights International launched its new, five-bedroom shelter for vulnerable women and children in East London yesterday.
The formal launch was attended by a large number of local, national and international partners, supporters and dignitaries, including South Africa's High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Rubina Marks.
"Patriarchy is universal. It is engraved in young boys and girls at a very young age and that is something we need to change in future generations. We need to break the cycle of how boys and girls think, and it starts at home," she said.
Marks praised the work Masimanyane does. "There are not enough organisations (like this). The need for shelters like the one we are launching is crucial in our society, because people need to know there are people out there who care," she said.
