International Judicial Colloquium on Women's Access to Justice in the Context of Sexual Violence

Masimanyane was invited to participate in the recent International Women's Rights Action Watch Asia Pacific (IWRAW) Judicial Colloquium on Women’s Access to Justice in the Context of Sexual Violence, held in in Bellagio, Italy, which resulted in the groundbreaking Bellagio Declaration.

The 18 high-level international delegates pictured above recognised that gender-based violence against women and girls, including sexual violence is a form of discrimination and both a cause and consequence of inequality. They also noted with concern that such violence is growing in intensity in all regions and countries.

The Bellagio Declaration sets out state obligation and the role of the judiciary in ensuring access to justice for gender-based violence. Read more about the Colloquium and download the Bellagio Declaration HERE.
